Hey guys!

Quick reminder about creating these memes: you actually have to take a screenshot of the image you create on quickmeme. If you copy the image from the URL, you will end up with a 2x2 BLANK image, and I won’t receive your actual submission. I’m getting quite a few blank ones, but I haven’t had time to go through the quickmeme page to add them here.

Here are some helpful links:

  • lingllama quickmeme page: This page lists the newest images created for the Linguist Llama meme. If you see one you haven’t seen on this blog that doesn’t have an associated creator, you can go ahead and submit it here. If I have it queued, I’ll just ignore copies.
  • lingllama quickmeme creation page: Click here to create a new meme if you have an idea. Don’t worry about it already being on the quickmeme site — just don’t submit duplicates to me. If you think you’ve found a good idea on the quickmeme site and it isn’t here, but it could’ve been reworded, go ahead and create a new image with the preferred wording. I don’t personally run the quickmeme side, and there aren’t any limits on how many exist. Note: After you create your final product, take a screenshot of the image — DO NOT RIGHT-CLICK AND SAVE! You can take screenshots on a PC with CTRL+PrntScrn (you can crop it in Paint) or on a Mac with Command+Shift+4 and dragging to select the area around the image.
  • lingllama submission area: After you have your final image on your computer, upload it to the submission form here. Click “Choose File” and navigate to where you saved it on your computer. Remember also to copy-and-paste the screen-reader image prompt above the submission form (beginning with a bracket and Picture: Background…). This lets the visually impaired (and other screen-reader users) enjoy your memes. Change the text marked [top text here] and [bottom text here] as appropriate. Additionally, it would be helpful to include a short “title” in bold above the image description. Check the first few posts on the main lingllama page to get some examples.
  • lingllama ask box: Come here with any questions or concerns about the site. PLEASE don’t use this for text submissions; I likely won’t get around to creating your submission. Also, I’d prefer if you didn’t direct particular linguistic concerns here either. I’m not a professor (or even a college student), so you would be better off to ask a professional (or even just the Internet at large). This isn’t a convenient forum for discussion, so it isn’t being used as such. If you want some sites to peruse for insight into the field of linguistics, look at the responses to this ask message.
